Man fled from gardaí at speed and crashed into another vehicle

-

A MAN involved in a high speed chase with gardaí before crashing into another vehicle has been given a five month sentence at Drogheda District Court.

The court heard that on June 22nd, 2916, gardaí observed Craig Reilly, Beechood Drive, Marleys Lane in a vehicle on the Rathmullen Road.

When they started to follow the car he left at speed and continued over Trinity Street with a garda vehicle with flashing lights in pursuit. A number of vehicles had to swerve to avoid him and he eventually crashed into a car.

He was accused of dangerous driving at Rathmullen Road and Trinity Street arising out of the incident as well of other offences including no insurance, driving without a driving licence and no tax.

The court heard Reilly has 49 previous convictions, including four road traffic offences.

Reilly’s solicitor Paddy Goodwin said his client had recently become a father and asked the judge not to impose a custodial sentence.

Judge John Coughlan disqualified Reilly from driving for ten years and imposed a sentence of five months in custody.
