Combination outfit claim O Broin Shield title
THE young hurlers of St Kevin’s/Mattock/Glen Emmets captured the Louth U12 O Broin ‘A’ Shield title at the very exciting blitz held in good conditions at Termonfeckin on Saturday afternoon.
Holders Naomh Moninne topped the group after the completion of the three rounds of matches to qualify for the ‘A’ Final. The combination side needed a good 3-2 to 1-1 against St fechins in the last round of group games to go through to meet the Dundalk outfit in that ‘A’ final.
Filling the lower two positions would be St Feckins and Knockbridge who would contest the ‘B’ final.
The combination side had the better of the first half in the final leading by 0-2 to no score and aided by a second half goal they captured the title on a 1-3 to 0-2 scoreline. Afterwards the ‘A’ Shield was presented by Michael O Broin to their captain Jack Stokes.
The ‘B’ final turned out to be a very exciting affair with the teams level at half time 1-1 a piece and at full time 3-1 a piece. Two periods of five minutes extra time could not separate the teams as they were tied at 4-1 each and it was agreed that the ‘B’ Shieild would be shared by the teams.
Afterwards the ‘B’ Shieild was presented by Michael O Broin to both the St Fechins captain Mahon Ronan and Knockbridge captain Tom O Brien.
