Senior Boyne athletes continue busy run

-

WITH the track & field season over for another year, the young athletes from Boyne AC took a well deserved break from training recently, but all groups are now back in full swing for the cross-country campaign.

However, there was no rest for the senior club members, with many competing in local road races and many in full marathon training mode.

The Seamie Weldon 5k, hosted by Ardee & District and incorporating the Louth Masters 5k Road Race Championships, saw Sally Clarke take third in her category in 21:08, while Catherine Tiernan finished in 22:05.

The following day saw Eimear Rickard and Mairead Hallinan take on the gruelling Land of Legends 8k in Clogherhead, with both finishing in fine style.

More recently, the Grant Thornton 5k Team Challenge saw more than 3,000 competitors take to the streets of Dublin over the 5k distance, with a great time of 22:42 for Justin Murtagh and a new PB of 23:54 for Karen Fairclough.

Tiernan was back in action again on Saturday last as she battled the wind in the Dromiskin 5k, finishing fifth lady in 21:28. Michael Byrne was delighted with his 24:54 finish, as was Edel MhicGabhann who crossed the line in 25:41.

Patricia Gaughran, in her first race for Boyne, clocked a super 28:28 and Jacqueline Reid (30:40) was not far behind.

Boyne AC will host the second Connor/Mallon 4 mile Road Race next Sunday at noon from the Donore Industrial Estate. Entries are open on www.myrunresults or the club Facebook page.
