in a time of 19:29. Second place in the women’s race went to Laura Matthews of North East Runners in a time of 19:48 and third place went to Star of the Sea athlete Aoife Parralla in a time of 20:08.
The category prize winners were Caitlin Mulholland from Dundalk St Gerard’s and Katie Mallon from Glenmore who were first and second junior women respectively, Dearbhla Greene from North East Runners and Bernie Moroney from Dromiskin Fit Club first and second Over-40, Anita Bolton from North East Runners and Helen Chesire from Dunleer AC first and second Over-50 and Angela Baird from Magheracloone Fun Run group and Eileen Jordon from North East Runners first and second Over-60.
The men’s category were also keenly contested, with Oisin Hughes from Blackrock AC in first and Ciaran Flynn from Glenmore in second. The men’s over-40 was won by Declan Toal of North East Runners, with Drogheda and District’s Shane Larkin in second. The over-50s men was won by Chris Keeling of Balbriggan & District AC, followed by North East Runners’ Eamonn McMahon. The men’s over-60 was won by St Peter’s AC athlete Andrew Rogers, with Tommy Shields from Dunleer AC in second.
The team Winners were North East Runners in the women’s and Balbriggan & District in the men’s.
The event was a major success as runners commented on the well organised event. The refreshments afterward were also very well received, proving that this really was a community event, with the two major sporting organisations in the parish - St Peter’s AC and St Joseph’s GAA club - working together.
