Clogher rescue success

-

A PLEASURE trip by a 54-year-old Cavan man could have ended in tragedy off Clogherhead pier on Monday last, but for the prompt action of two local men.

Mr. Bobbie Woods, a native of Ballyjamesduff, with another man and a young child, went out in a boat, but two miles offshore it developed trouble when the drive broke down. They dropped anchor and immediately tried to attract the attention of someone on the shore. Fortunately for them, two people who were visiting Clogherhead, saw the distress signals of the man waving a white flag and immediately notified the local garda station.

Sgt. Peter Heffernan contacted local businessman, Aidan Stafford. Both men went down to the pier and hit out to sea in Mr. Stafford’s “Lady Marion.” They towed the boat safely into the harbour.
