Rent out your home for €800 a week for the Fleadh!

-

UP TO 400 homes are needed in the Drogheda area for families attending next year’s Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann in the town.

The event runs from Sunday 12th to Sunday 19th August 2018 and will see massive crowds arrive in town, with up to 100,000 expected on the Saturday alone.

Those interested in allowing their home to be rented can make contact with the Fleadh committee. The homes are inspected and if accepted, could earn the homeowner up to €800.

Rooms in houses are also required for the week.

The use of volunteers will also be vital and up to 1,500 people need to be recruited to perform every job possible. Clubs and organisations are all asked to provide helpers.

Initial details of the event were revealed last week at a meeting in the Westcourt.

SOME of the points raised included:

* An open door policy by hotels for those attending the Fleadh to use toilets and also lobby area for meet ups.

* A drone to be used to indicate traffic flow and any problems. * Providing music sessions in heritage locations, from the Gate to the Old Abbey.

* The back lanes need to be in good condition.

* The Saturday crowd could number 100,000 people.

* An Events Manager will be appointed.

* The town bins will be sealed and large recycling bins placed on the streets.

* Pubs will be encouraged to use plastic cups only to prevent glass on the streets.

(It will also lead to less washing up).

* Street Ambassadors will be needed to advise people on places to go and see.

* Streets are cleaned from

4am on.

* There are plans to erect banners from Dublin to the border, telling people about the Fleadh and directing them to Drogheda. * It is hoped that numbers will be even bigger than usual, with more attending for day trips from Dublin and Northern Ireland. * The amount of entertainment on show will be ‘mindboggling’ as one speaker revealed.

* Drogheda can be expected to feature on Fleadh TV all week. * Be prepared! In the first year in Cavan, the pubs ran out of beer and the shops ran out of water!

* Disabled and family friendly access will be required.
