Diehard fans swap allegiance for charity

-

TWO diehard Dundalk town supporters will pledge their allegiance to Drogheda United when the two towns meet in Oriel Park next Friday - all in the name of charity.

Orla Crilly from Grangebellew and well known Dundalk taxi driver ‘Maxi’ Mark Kavanagh are the two brave souls swapping their allegiances to raise vital funds for the Irish Cancer Society.

The idea came from Orla who organised the event as part of the Today FM Dare to Care fundraising campaign.

She contacted Maxi who agreed to come on board and a fundraising page has been set up with the aim of raising €500.

Last Friday, the pair were presented with their Drogheda United Jersey’s at the club grounds by Drogheda United Commercial Manager Ben Clarke.

There was also a bucket collection at the game to give the pair a head start in their fundraising and to launch their campaign.

‘Maxi is a die hard Dundalk fan and wouldn’t be seen dead in a Drogheda jersey under normal circumstances!’ Ben Clarke told the Drogheda Independent.

‘We were delighted to present them with their jerseys in Drogheda on Friday, it’s a great cause and they’re both being very good sports about it. Orla first approached Maxi about it and then he knows me so we said we’d come on board and help out.’

Orla extended her thanks to Ben and all the team at United Park following last Friday’s presentation of the jerseys. We were all treated like loyalty. Thanks you so much,’ she said on her Facebook page. You can donate to the cause by visiting Orla and Maxi’s Just Giving page available on both of their Facebook pages.
