Driver (37) had no insurance for fourth time
A MAN caught driving without insurance for the fourth time has been sentenced to five months in custody and disqualified from driving for ten years.
Nigel O’Brien (37) has 37 previous convictions, three of which are for no insurance, Drogheda District Court heard.
He was stopped by gardai at Beechwood Avenue on January 4 and had no insurance, no driving licence and no NCT.
The defendant, of Beechwood Avenue, Marley’s Lane in Drogheda pleaded guilty to the offences.
Defence barrister Irene Sands said the defendant has had ‘historical difficulties.’ She asked Judge John Coughlan to mark a conviction but not to sentence the defendant until November.
However, Judge Coughlan proceeded with the sentencing and convicted the defendant, imposing a five month prison sentence and a ten year driving ban.
