Twinscelebrate their90thinstyle
TWO sisters, who may be Ireland’s oldest twins, celebrated their 90th birthday with a party in the Glenside Hotel recently.
Lily and Birdie were thrilled to be surrounded by their families - and of course each other - to mark the major milestone birthday.
Originally from Mount Hanover in Duleek, Lily and Birdie were two of eight girls born to Richard and Julia Warren.
The two girls were born on September 7th, 1927 and were educated locally before each met their respective partners.
Lily married Sean Moore and moved to Kilmoon Cross, where the couple still live.
Sean worked as a Civil Servant in Dublin Castle while Lily worked for a time in the Drogheda Independent. The couple have two daughters, Ann and Elaine.
Birdie, meanwhile, married James Mullen from Crufty in 1954.
The couple settled in Crufty where they raised their five children, Noel, Margaret, Clare, Eamonn and Gerry.
James sadly passed away two years ago and Birdie moved to St Ursula’s Nursing Home in Bettystown last year.
The ladies were joined at the party by their sisters Eileen Kelly and Nuala Doherty. Madge Floyd, who lives in Dublin, was unable to make it and their three other sisters, Sheila, Monica and Kitty are deceased.
‘ The party was a massive success, they had an absolute ball and it was a great way for everyone to catch up,’ Birdie’s son Gerry told the Drogheda Independent. ‘We suspect they could be up there with the oldest living twins in Ireland. They are extremely close and would have always seen each other at least once a week. Even in the later years they would have met up and headed out for lunch and a bit of shopping.’
Lily has two grandchildren and Birdie has 13 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, many of whom were also at the part.
‘It was a really fabulous day, a very special event,’ added Gerry.
