EDWARD day takes place in Louth on Thursday

-

THIS Thursday, September 21, is the second annual ‘European Day Without A Road Death’ also known as Project EDWARD.

The initiative which is supported by Louth County Council, the Road Safety Authority and An Garda Síochána is organised by TISPOL, the Traffic Police network in Europe.

Adrian O’Sullivan, Road Safety Officer with Louth County Council explained: ‘On average, 70 people die every day on Europe’s roads. As of 14th September 2017 a total of 110 people have been killed in Irish roads and while this is 22 less than the same period in 2016.

‘We can’t afford to be complacent about road safety as unfortunately seven people have lost their lives to date in 2017 in County Louth, with two separate multiple fatalities on the N2 claiming the lives of five people’.
