Property break-in stopped

GARDAI are hunting for three men in a grey transit van after a postman interrupte­d them as they attempted to break into a house at Rathcoole last Friday.

The incident happened at around 10am at a property in Rathcoole, Dunleer when the three were disturbed at the house. They had broken the lock on the shed at the property but nothing had been taken. The three left the area in a grey Ford Transit van with the registrati­on 06-D-34569.

Gardaí in Drogheda are also investigat­ing a burglary at a house in Balgathera­n on Thursday, September 14th.

The front door of the house was forced in.

The owners of the property were away on holidays at the time the break-in occurred.

Also on the 14th, a house in Wheaton Hall was broken into at around 8pm.

The owner of the property was in the house at the time and heard a noise downstairs at the front door.

When he went downstairs to investigat­e he found the barrel from the lock had been removed from outside the door.

The man could not see anyone in the surroundin­g area. Gardaí also attended the scene but didn’t find anyone in the locality either. No entry was gained to the property.

A house in Meadowview was broken into in the early hours of Monday morning. The owner of the house was alerted after the alarm was activated just after 4am and went downstairs to find a window had been broken.

However, no entry was gained and nothing was taken.

Meanwhile, two cars have once again been broken into at Old Mellifont Abbey.

Both break-ins happened last Saturday, September 16th at around lunchtime. In the first instance, a window on the car was smashed but nothing was taken.

However, a laptop was stolen from the second car, a white BMW hired car.
