Court car park future to be decided in coming weeks
DISCUSSIONS are to take place to determine the future of the car park in front of the new Drogheda Courthouse, it has been revealed.
It is hoped that the carpark may be returned for public use on days when the court is not in session, however this has yet to be confirmed as the OPW are due to enter into talks with Louth County Council about the future of the site.
The site in front of Drogheda Courthouse was provided by the Office of Publi Works to the Courts Service to facilitate the construction of the new Courthouse.
It is currently in the process of being transferred back to the OPW.
In a written response to a parlimentary question from local TD Fergus O’Dowd, the Minister for Justice and Equality, Deputy Charlie Flanagan said it is believed the Office of Public Works will be entering into discussions with the Local Authority with a view to determining the future use of this area.
Deputy O’Dowd had asked if the carpark at the new courthouse in Drogheda will be available to the public on non sitting days and the terms of agreement on the car park.
Commenting on the response, Deputy O’Dowd said: ‘I welcome the progress made in returning the car park to the Office of Public Works, I have written to the County Manager and to the OPW to stress the importance of returning the use of the car park to residents on non-sitting days..’
He said the Minister has confirmed to him that discussions will be undertaken shortly on the matter.
Deputy O’Dowd added: ‘I would urge both the Louth County Council and the OPW to make a practical decision for the resident’s and traders of the town immediately.’
