Communities asked to get involved in the planning for Cement project

-

THE DULEEK Environmental Group is encouraging the population of the East Meath, Drogheda and Mid Louth areas to get involved in the planning process for Irish Cement’s application to increase the burning of alternative fuel types from 120.000 tons to 600,000 tons per annum.

The application has been lodged with An Board Pleanala and the ‘fuels’ include tyres, bone meal, hospital waste, etc.

‘We want this plan to be critically examined from top to bottom. We have concerns about health, both short term and long term, in this wider area and people must have their say now. It will be too late once a license or permit is granted,’ they state.

‘Submission fees are €50 each, and while we view this as been totally undemocratic, and unfair on many families and individuals who may not be able to afford same, we recommend that people and groups come together. We hope that various groups, local residents, community, environment, etc, will all work together to make sure their views are heard noticed and respected. We would also call on all our local political representatives to be part of this.’

The Planning Ref number is PL 17. PA0050 and the closing date is October 2 at 5pm. Website – www.platinfuelproject.ie.

Submissions must be made in writing and include submission fee €50 and addressed to ; The Secretary, An Bord Pleanala, 64 Marlborough Street, Dublin. Further information available from Duleek Environmental Facebook Page at all times.
