Evan’s above - four goals on Albion debut!

-

FORMER Black Bull ace Evan Corlett enjoyed a sensational debut for Albion Rovers on Sunday morning when scoring four goals in the rout of Oldcastle United.

The Monasterboice side are new to Division 2 this season, but from the kick-off they took a firm grip of the game, dictating play with their slick passing.

It was no surprise when the visitors took the lead. Stephen Martin played Corlett into the channel and he crossed low into the box to find Andy Morgan who finished to the roof of the net.

Albion’s second goal came on 20 minutes when Oldcastle failed to clear a corner and Helder Mota was on hand to neatly finish with his left foot, and 60 seconds later Albion found themselves 3-0 up when Helder Goncalves crossed low for Corlett to finish under the oncoming keeper.

There was still time for Corlett to make it four when his wonder strike from 30 yards found the bottom corner, giving the Oldcastle keeper no chance.

Albion came out in the second half and were happy to just keep the ball, but they continued to get at the Oldcastle defence and Morgan added number five from close range after great work down the left from James Walsh and Sean Doherty.

The goal of the game arrived next, with Karl Harding moving the the ball up the line to AJ Byrne whipped the ball into Adam Swift. With his first touch Swift put Corlett one-on-one with the goalkeeper and there was only one outcome as the Albion new boys chipped the keeper from 12 yards.

Corlett rounded off a fantastic first game in Albion colours when adding his fourth from a tight angle late on.

Best on the day for Albion was Corlett, Morgan, Martin and Mota.
