Cabraley seals the deal for Drogs in great style
DROGHEDA UNITED CAVAN MONAGHAN 3 0
DROGHEDA United Under-17s continued their marked improvement under new manager Barry Sanfey when proving too strong for Cavan Monaghan in United Park last Saturday.
With Daniel Grace looking confident and capable in between the sticks and the defence playing three at the back with two wing backs, there was a solid platform for the midfield and forwards to build on.
It was by no means an easy match and as early as the second minute Grace did brilliantly to turn a goal-bound shot onto the post, but on 10 minutes the Drogs were awarded a penalty which was struck home with great authority by captain Sam Byrne.
This lead goal enabled the Drogs to settle into the game and in quick succession they almost scored from a corner and hit the post and Karl Spooner - who showed great attacking flair down the right - saw his great shot turned over the bar by the visiting keeper.
Eventually, on 39 minutes and after incessant attacking, the hard-working Michael McHugh headed home for a corner.
Leading 2-0 at half-time, the Drogs played well within themselves in the second period and hard-working midfielder Frank Cabraley capped a fine team performance on 70 minutes when his brilliantly struck free from outside the penalty area flew into the top corner of the net.
