MACBRIDE P&P

THE MacBride Club Matchplay commenced last weekend. Some close matches took place in the quarter-finals which were held on Sunday morning. The semi-finals and finals will take place on Sunday next.

Good luck to Keith Smyth, Pádraic Sarsfield, David O’Brien and Barry Thornton in the Senior grade; to Joe Reilly, Liam Flood, Ray McKenna and Owen Campbell in the Inter grade; Pat Gorman and Martin Kirwan in the Junior grade; and to Anne Fagan and Audrey Donnelly in the Ladies grade.

There was no winner of last Tuesday’s club lotto jackpot draw. The numbers were 4, 5, 12 & 27 and the lucky dip winners were Richard McCabe, Liam Reilly and Peter & Mavis. The next draw will take place on Tuesday 26th when the jackpot prize will go up to €2,350.

Congratula­tions to MacBride club member Sean Goggin on winning the Glenville Scratch Cup with a superb performanc­e of 33 under par for 54 holes.

Well done also to Barry Thornton who made the final 12 at the Lough Owel Scratch Cup on Sunday, and to Audrey Donnelly who took the runner-up prize in the Ladies grade.

Qualifying for the Leinster Matchplay Finals takes place on Saturday next at 3pm. Junior and Senior grades will be held in Cement and the Inter grade qualifying will take place in Seapoint. Best of luck to all those taking part.

The final of the Club Doubles between Gerry Breen snr & Gerry Breen jnr and Johnny Campbell snr & Colin Campbell will take place this Friday at 4pm. Please come out and support them if you can.

The final of the Club Mixed Doubles competitio­n between Molly Penders & Pat Greene and Christine Carroll & Frank Penders has been postponed until further notice.

Next Sunday at 9.30am we will be hosting the Masters Fourball competitio­n, sponsored by David Carroll of Seapoint Golf Club. Entry is on the noticeboar­d, so please get your names up as soon as possible.

The following week will see the start of our turkey competitio­n. The first week only will be a slight change to normal as it starts on Thursday 28th and continues on Saturday 30th and Sunday October 1st. More details will follow next week.
