Benny will be truly missed

IT was with a heavy heart that I learned of the sudden passing of Brendan Reilly on Saturday evening.

I’ve known Benny for many years now through my time as a player and selector with Louth and also through social occasions.

He was an excellent defender with first John Mitchels and later his adopted club Naomh Martin.

He represented Louth at all levels and but for injury would have spent much more time in the red jersey.

I always enjoyed bumping into him and his cheeky smile and dry wit were infectious. He was such a lovely, warm and engaging person and will be truly missed by all who knew him.

Benny lined out earlier in the day with Naomh Mairtin in the club’s Cardinal O Donnell semi final victory over St Marys.

It is understood he took ill on his way home from the match.

My deepest sympathy is extended to his wife Lisa and his three young children.
