Gormanston College

WITH a new school-term just after starting at Gormanston College, it appears that many of the residents in the village are not too happy about the large amount of vehicles that are parking up at the front of their homes, often blocking entrances, particularly when school has ended in the afternoon.

There is a one-way-system in operation throughout the school grounds with entry gained from the Stamullen road and exiting on to the Gormanston village road; however, many parents have opted to parking outside the college grounds altogether and instead they are stopping along and indeed on the footpath going through the village.

There has been a very noticeable traffic congestion in the vicinity in recent times.

NEW ARRIVALS

CONGRATULATIONS and best wishes to the parents, guardians and extended families of the following children who were recently baptised in the parish. Leon Knapik, Ruairi McMeel, Mary & Daniel Olajita and Sophia O`Neill.

KNOW YOUR PARISH

THE following notice appeared in the Drogheda Independent newspaper on February 16th 1918. `While workmen were digging some ditches on the grounds of Gormanston Military Aerodrome last week, they uncovered a human skeleton. The gruesome discovery was made on Wednesday afternoon and after getting over the initial shock the men alerted the local Police Force who arrived at the scene and after some examinations they took the skeleton away with them`.

STAMULLEN SOCCER

THE Stamullen soccer club continues to thrive in the community and are a huge asset for the area.

They provide football at all ages, even for the over 35s, so there’s great community involvement.

I noticed recently that they were looking for girls to join their under 16 squad for the season ahead. They train on Thursdays from 7-8pm.

Coach is Joe Higgins and he can be contacted at 0872240411.
