Ciaran is the new lord of the dance after latest victory

-

DROGHEDA and Ni Chearra O Baoláin School of Irish Dancing can boast one of the best under age Irish dancers in Ireland yet again thanks to the achievements of Ciaran Smith from Boyne Lodge.

Ciaran recently took home the gold in the Under 9 boys category at the Irish Dancing National Championships which took place in City West Hotel and Conference Centre.

The young superstar is a member of the world renowned Irish dancing school, Ní Chearra O Baoláin where he is taught by world champion Caoimhe Boylan along with her parents Peter and Brenda Boylan who opened the school’s doors over 30 years ago.

The school has won numerous World and All Ireland titles throughout the years most recently becoming World Champions in the under 13 ceili and bringing home the top prize, the famous globe presented by Michael Flatley in City West at Easter time.

Recently to join the teaching staff as a junior teacher is Caoimhe’s brother Daire Boylan who is an All Ireland champion and was part of a winning team at the World Championships himself.

Ciaran’s win at the recent Irish National championships was even more special given the fact that Daire is the only other male from the town to have won the title at the Irish Nationals.

Ciaran is the second generation in his family to have danced under the tuition of Peter and Brenda.

His Mam Karen Smith nee Brady was a pupil herself in her dancing days.

The proud Mammy said, “It is such a great feeling to think that the tradition is following through.

‘I loved my dancing days and I am amazed at how far Ciaran has come is such a short timehe has only been dancing for the past 18 months!!!

‘I love the fact that it is a family run school who want to pass on their love for the Irish tradition to the children and young people of Drogheda. All four teachers really want to bring out the best in all of the pupils and it was such a proud moment when Ciaran stood on the top of the podeum”

The school as a whole had major success, champions in four separate ceili teams and brought home an additional 50 gold medals in the subsidary teams. Ciaran himself brought home gold in all of his team competitions.

The school also had nine solo world qualifiers for the World Championships in Glasgow at Easter next year.
