Contestants getting in tune for the lip sync battle at O’Raghallaigh’s
IT’S now only a few weeks until Drogheda is introduced to the Lip Sync scene.
Competitors are gearing up and honing their skills for the novel event which takes place at the O’Raghallaighs GAA centre on October 14.
It is being organised as a fund-raiser for the Drogheda branch of the Alzheimer Society which is hoping to provide a new day care centre for the town.
Chief organiser, Gary Fagan, said there will be 18 acts competing on the big night which promises an occasion of fun and laughter. The participants limbered up for the big night with a launch at The Cross.
LipSyncing involves contestants miming the words of wellknown songs, dressing up as their chosen artist and interpreting the music with their actions.
It will be a very competitive event, with those taking part representing rival pubs and clubs in the town.
Choreographer, Kym Keogh, has been putting the competitors through their paces and linking them with suitable songs.
Mr Fagan said ; ‘’ There is huge interest and enthusiasm for the event and we are confident it will be a big success for the Alzheimer cause’’.
Each contestant or group of contestants will aim to raise sponsorship of Eur150 from friends, supporters and work colleagues, and to sell a minimum of 20 tickets.
Alzheimer branch chairman, Noel Heeney, said this was one of their big fund-raisers this year. He explained to the competitors the society’s hopes for the day care project.
He said they were delighted to be associated with the event and thanked Mr Fagan and Ms CathyAnne Ward, who dealt with the entries, for their efforts.
