Cllr Godfrey seeks more info about plans for Fleadh 2018
A call for more information to be made about the plans being put in place for Drogheda’s hosting of the Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann 2018 was made by Cllr Frank Godfrey at the monthly meeting of Louth County Council.
He felt that councillors should be updated as to what arrangements are being made for the Boyneside town hosting the Fleadh next August and how it would affect townspeople in terms of access and parking etc, with hundreds of thousands of people expected to visit over the days when the Fleadh is taking place.
Chief Executive Ms Joan Martin informed him ‘ the Fleadh is a matter for the Fleadh committee’ and that the Council was not responsible for the Fleadh.
While she happened to be the executive of the Fleadh executive committee she was not proposing to bring reports to the County Council.
‘It’s a matter for the executive committee,’ she said, adding that things were still at an early stage, with the Fleadh eleven months away.
‘We are only gearing up following our visit to Ennis,’ she said.
