MACBRIDE P&P

THE MacBride Club Matchplay Finals took place on Sunday in perfect weather conditions.

The Ladies Final was a family affair between mother and daughter Anne Fagan and Audrey Donnelly. Experience shone through, with Anne claiming the victory on the 36th hole.

The Gents Junior Grade featured Pat Gorman and Martin Kirwan. A close match between the two saw Pat edge ahead in the second round to win the match on the 33rd.

The Inter Grade was won by Ray McKenna who beat Liam Flood in the semi-final earlier in the morning. His opponent for the final was Joe Reilly who had won his semi-final match against Owen Campbell.

The Gents Senior Final was again a closely contested match between Pádraic Sarsfield and David O’Brien. Having qualified on Saturday afternoon for the Leinster Matchplay Finals, both players continued their fine form on Sunday morning, winning their semi-final matches against Keith Smyth and Barry Thornton respectively.

The two Senior men put on a wonderful display of quality Pitch & Putt, and it was Pádraic who took the title.

The presentation of prizes took place in the clubhouse afterwards. Well done to all the winners. Thank you to all who entered the competition, and to all members who turned out to support their fellow club players.

The Leinster Matchplay Finals will take place on Saturday and Sunday next at the Castletown and Navan courses. The club would like to wish good luck to club members Audrey Donnelly in the Ladies Junior Grade, and to Sean Goggin, Pádraic Sarsfield, David O’Brien and George Beardsley in the Gents Senior Grade.

The Club Turkey Season is fast approaching. Week 1 of the competition will get under way next week.
