Donore GAA club thriving
New dressing rooms and showers opened up at St Mary’s GFC as they look to the future
THE FUTURE is looking even brighter for progressive Donore club, St Mary’s GFC, after they unveiled their new dressing room development.
The new centre features four dressing rooms, along with toilets and showers.
The project began 18 months ago, with the sod turning just a year ago.
They had been operating out of prefabs for a number of years.
The club has seen wonderful growth in recent years, especially in the girls section with teams from under 10 to under 15 for the first time since the club was founded in 1969.
There are over 200 children in the club, up to 18 years old. They have an amalgamation with Slane in the younger age groups.
With a catchment in the Donore/Rossnaree area, the club are planning even more development in the future with next up a community facility for Donore.
It is under construction at the moment. ‘We have had great local support,’ PRO Mark Byrne stated.
They are close to the Newgrange Centre at Bru na Boinne and also Newgrange Lodge while funding has come from the likes of the Meath County Council/Indaver Fund and the National Lottery.
Local councillors and politicians have also weighed in behind the club.
Another success has been the Lifelong Membership scheme. This is where members can invest in the future of the club now.
‘ The likes of Slane and Duleek GFC help us too, which is great,’ Mark explained.
As well as their club teams, the Mary’s operate a nursery for under 5s and 6s on a Saturday morning, adding to the community spirit in the area.
