Plan to develop CCTV system for Julianstow­n village

AN OVERWHELMI­NG majority of people want CCTV to be installed in the Julianstow­n area, a local community meeting has heard.

Members of the community, gardai and local public representa­tives attended a public meeting at which plans for the new service were outlined.

It is now envisaged that the proposal will go to the Department of Justice in a bid to secure up to 60% of the funding needed.

Other funding sought.

‘We are looking at having eight cameras in three different locations,’ Cllr Sharon Keogan stated.

‘It will be in collaborat­ion with gardai and we have to seek tenders and get the best price.’

There are a number of key areas in Julianstow­n that need constant monitoring with traffic flows and junctions of major concern to the sheer volume of traffic that pass through the village on a daily basis.

‘It’s a matter of moving on with this now and getting the funding so we can get the cameras in. They are needed in the area.

‘We have to get agreement on monitoring them too,’ the councillor added.
