Locals asked to back Culture Connect

-

CULTURE Connect, the local group which helps immigrants to integrate, is encouraging more service providers in the town to work with it and is appealing for more Irish people to join in its efforts.

These are two of the aims in the new strategic plan the group has prepared for 2017 to 2019. The plan will be launched by Minister of State for Equality, Immigration and Integration Deputy David Stanton in The d Hotel on Tuesday October 3rd at 10 am.

Culture Connect co-ordinator Flora Okobi appealed to local community groups to attend the function to find out how they can connect with immigrants and involve them in community activities.

“This is would be a very effective way of helping the new communities to integrate and involve them in service to the town.”

“It is also important that community groups and state bodies which provide services should make immigrants aware of the help and encouragement that is available to them as residents of the town. We can assist this process through the information service we provide.

Flora said that many different nationalities were involved in helping Culture Connect providing a wide range of services but they would like more Irish people to be involved. This is vital for integration to be effective.” Culture Connect has an office in the Barbican building. Phone: 041-9865025 and 087-1314312. E-mail: cultureconnect@ymail.com.
