Almost €80,000 raised for family of late Benny Reilly

Almost €80,000 has been raised so far through the Go Fund Me page set up by teammates and friends of the late Brendan ‘Benny’ Reilly to support his young family.

As of Monday afternoon, a total of €78,685 of €80,000 goal had been raised in less than two weeks.

The memorial page was set up by Patrick Sullivan 12 days ago and since then has received phenomenal support from the public in County Louth and beyond following the tragic and untimely death of Benny, who was on his way home from a game with his club Naomh Mairtin GAA, when he fell ill on Saturday, September 16th.

The page was set up by teammates and friends of Benny who came together to create campaign to support his young family during what is a very difficult time.

The page has received an outpouring of supportive messages and donations since it was set up from the many people whose lives Benny touched and who wanted tos how their support in some small way.

The message on the GoFundMe page states: ‘Benny embodied everything positive about the GAA. A steely competitor on the pitch and a true gentleman off it- he was loved throughout the county. He leaves behind him his loving wife Lisa, Saoirse (4 years), Amy (2 years) and Harry (2 months).

‘We hope you will consider contributi­ng to a great man’s memory.’
