Drogheda’sfirst comedy festival LaughOutLouth

- By FIONA MAGENNIS

TICKETS are now on sale for Drogheda’s first ever comedy festival ‘Laugh out Louth’, aimed at raising awareness for men’s mental health.

The festival, which features a host of well known local and national comedians, including headliner Deirdre O’Kane, will take place from Friday, October 13 to Sunday, October 15th.

The festival will take place at a number of venues around town including the Droichead Arts Centre, McPhails Bar, the d Hotel and the Little Duke Theatre.

The idea for the festival came from psychotherapist Bairbre Kelly, who created the event to raise awareness of mental health issues in the community, particularly male mental health, through comedy.

As well as award winning comedian Deirdre O’Kane, the line up includes Eleanor Tiernan, Joe Rooney, Eric Lalor, Collum McDonnell and Emma Doran as well as many more.

All profits raised will go to the Samaritans.

‘Join us in venues across Drogheda the weekend of the 13th-15th of October for a good laugh for a good cause, where our acts will help dispel the stigma around (male) mental health through comedy,’ said Bairbre, who has worked alongside Louise Kiely, Kelly Kierans, Michael Kierans and Anthony Kinahan to organise the festival.

The d Hotel has offered the festival a discounted rate on rooms in the hotel over the weekend to anyone that is visiting from outside the area for the festival.

‘ The festival is a fledgling event this year and already we are gathering great momentum,’ Bairbre explained. ‘Next year already stands to be bigger and better and we hope we can count on your support for this good cause.’
