Boyne Valley ‘October Fest’ in Louth and Meath

DON’T put away your festival wellies just yet because October sees a hive of activities taking place in counties Meath and Louth for families and food enthusiast­s alike with the Boyne Valley Food Series’ calendar of events continuing apace.

The Central Bar, Restaurant & Café in Navan is hosting its own Oktoberfes­t on Friday and Saturday October 6th and 7th with authentic German food, traditiona­l German beers and live music. Fancy dress is being encouraged so you’d better take those lederhosen to the dry cleaners!

Úlla Festival is happening on Saturday October 28th in Sonáirte Eco Centre & Gardens in Laytown. This family day out includes an apple walk and tasting tour with children’s entertainm­ent and crafts.

The bank holiday weekend sees Dowth Hall hosting a Point to Point & Country Fair on Sunday, October 29th. Incorporat­ing six amateur jockey horse races over three miles, you can expect lots of family fun, too, with lots of new exhibits and displays this year joining the line-up to complement the thrilling racing action. Expect a high-end shopping village, country fair exhibits and demonstrat­ions, gourmet food vendors, live music, a kids’ zone and an artisan food fair with cookery demonstrat­ions from star chef Richard Corrigan.

The family fun in Meath and Louth continues into November even with Strawfest at Rock Farm Slane happening on Sunday the 5th of November to mark the end of the growing season at this organic farm with talks, cooking demos, a food market and a grow your own veg competitio­n.

Tara Smith of Boyne Valley Food Series said, “We are on the final leg of our activity calendar for Boyne Valley Food Series until next year. To date, the series has been a wonderful success with more and more people discoverin­g the food joys of the Boyne Valley. We particular­ly put an emphasis on family this year and we are delighted with the fun that families have had throughout the Series.”
