STOP SIGN AND A YELLOW BOX ARE THE ISSUES

-

THE settling in period since the closure of Laurence’s Gate is fast coming to a close and the end result has been encouraging.

There were fears of gridlock all the time at the area around the historic gate but for the most part people have found their alternative routes and that has helped ease the situation considerably.

I’d love to get some reaction from the people in the nearby estates and streets just to see what the issues are now - or if there’s any.

Two things I have noticed. As you come up Constitution Hill, there is a very big STOP sign positioned on the hill, but how many people actually stop here?

I have seen vehicles just go straight through, hoping there’s nothing coming from the Chord Road, which has the right of way.

Perhaps the council might consider giving Constitution Hill the right of way and a yield sign on the Chord?

The second issue comes at the top of Francis Street, as you exit almost opposite Eddie’s Hardware.

Traffic now goes left and right, but getting your nose onto Scarlet Street can be a problem, especially during peak school hours.

It was said at the start that a Yellow Box was needed here to help safety at the junction and that need has not gone away.
