Delays don’t put Boyne ladies off their stride

-

WITH marathon training in full swing, some of Boyne AC’s senior athletes took to the scenic environs of Newbridge House for the Airtricity Dublin Half-Marathon recently.

Having moved this year from its usual venue in the Phoenix Park, some traffic issues saw the start delayed for the almost 9,000 runners who took part. Undeterred, the 13 Boyne members taking part all met the challenging course head on, with many recording new personal best times.

Paul Kirwan and Rebecca Carolan were first to cross the line for the club, clocking 1.42.35 and 1.42.37 respectively. Andrew Coyle was next in 1.51.35, with Derek Boylan not far behind in 1.54.18, while Ryan Holcroft ran a super race to finish in 1.56.09.

Karen Fairclough clocked 2.01.16, with running partner Jillian Connor just behind her in 2.01.43.

Judith McGuinness Faulkner ran a super 2.08.17, and it was a new PB for Nicola Finnegan who crossed the line in 2.09.05. Annemarie Garcia was delighted with her 2.10.48 as she targets the marathon in October, while Edel Gartland had a great run to finish in 2.15.51.

The ever-smiling Julie O’Shea took a whopping 12 minutes off her previous best time to sprint across the line in 2.19.18, while Eimear Rickard ran 2.22.41 for her half marathon debut.
