and the MacBride club was well represente­d in the Gents Senior grade, with three of our members managing to reach the quarter-final stage.

Well done to Sean Goggin who finished runner-up - and the club would also like to congratula­te Frances Farrell from the Cement club on winning the Junior Ladies title.

The Turkey season commences this week and Week 1 of the competitio­n will be 18 nett. Times of play are Wednesday and Saturday at 2pm and Sunday at 10am.

There was no winner of last week’s club lotto jackpot draw which took place on Tuesday. The numbers drawn were 1, 9, 10 & 11 and the lucky dip winners were Michelle Dykstra, Pádraic Sarsfield and Ray McKenna. The next draw will take place on Tuesday October 10th when the jackpot prize will be €2,400.

MEATH prize-winners in the Leinster Matchplay competitio­n, played at the Navan and Castletown clubs over the weekend, were as follows: Ladies Junior - 2nd Noreen Myles (Gaeil Colmcille); Gents Junior - 2nd Stephen McAuley (Navan); Gents Inter - 2nd Jason Hughes (Navan).

RESULTS from last weekend’s 18-hole stableford: 1st Peter McNally 41pts, 2nd Pauric Pentony 39pts, 3rd Martin Reynolds. Pauric Pentony won the mid-week competitio­n with 21 points. FORMER St Oliver’s CC Drogheda teacher Eamonn Maguire made history in Vienna last week by becoming the first ever golfer - profession­al or amateur - to retain an Austrian open title.

Maguire shot rounds of 68 and a championsh­ip best 66 at Sussenbrun­n GC to finish ahead of world champion Sharon Zohar and an elite internatio­nal field of visually impaired golfers.

BBC 2 television recently filmed a documentar­y entitled ‘Under the Radar’ about Maguire’s achievemen­ts which will air in November.
