Big couple of weeks for Dundalk rivals
DUNDALK Gaels bridged a 25 year gap to reach the Louth senior final with a one point win over Naomh Martin in the Grove.
While the Monasterboice men enjoyed the popular support of most neutrals following their recent tragedy, Gaels did what they needed to do and closed out their opponents in very effective fashion.
The Ramparts side’s defensive style is not pretty on the eye but they are extremely difficult to break down and will fancy their chances of causing an upset in the decider. A nice gesture following the game was Gaels giving their opponents a guard of honour and clapping them from the field in recognition of what was an extremely difficult couple of weeks for the Monasterboice club. They’re out again this week in the Cardinal O Donnell cup final against St Marys on Thursday night.
The other big match of the week is Clans and O Connells in the Intermediate final in Dunleer. There’s no secret where my loyalties lie in this one and I hope we can put those recent final losses behind us and return to the senior grade.
