Minnistown needs help!

-

IT’S time the council tackle the issue of traffic on the Minnistown Road.

A once narrow, quiet, country road is now very busy according to Cllr Eimear Ferguson.

Residents became so frustrated by the road being used as a short cut, they turned signs around - only for the council to turn them back again!

‘ The signs led to an amount of extra traffic on the road’, the councillor stated. ‘Its a quiet by-road and now trucks are going down it.’

Council officials said they were aware that signs had been turned and they turned them back again.

The councillor said the signs had always been pointing the right way and the residents had only restored them to their correct position.

Cllr Tom Kelly asked for a traffic count on the stretch of road.

New centre set for Old Mill site

A new development on the site of the Old Mill in Julianstown is on the cards.

The site had a derelict building notice placed on it recently.

The owners and developers have been in contact with the council in relation to the future of the controversial site, which had become a real eyesore .

The site includes a protected structure, dating back to the 1700”s.

‘We have to work with the developer and we want something there’, Cllr Sharon Keogan told a recent council meeting.

She has also called for a bin to be placed beside the bus stop in Julianstown. ‘ There is a lot of rubbish being dumped here’, she added.

Car blocking road

THE Cathaoirleach of the Laytown/Bettystown area council, Paddy Meade has been left a bit bemused by the role of the council and gardai when it comes to moving abandoned cars.

He came across a vehicle left blocking a narrow road for a week and having made contact with the gardai and council to no avail, had to assist locals to move it.

‘ The council or the gardai were not prepared to do it’’, he told councillors.

Deepforde sign

RESIDENTS of the Deepforde estate on the Dublin’Road in Drogheda are slightly confused!

An area at the rear of the estate needs proper signage according to Cllr Stephen McKee.

‘ There is confusion about a right of way and it needs a stop sign’, he told a council meeting in Duleek. He also called for road markings.
