Drug deals taking place on M1 interchanges
NUMBER OF ISSUES RAISED AT MEETING OF JOINT POLICING FORUM
THE M1 interchanges in Drogheda are being used as a meeting place for drug deals.
A number of instances have been reported to gardai and the latest high profile incident was sparked by the visit of Minister Shane Ross to look at the tolls!
He was asked to come along for a site visit by local political figures and the entourage parked exactly where the drug meetings have been taking place.
Local councillor Oliver Tully told the Joint Policing Meeting in the Westcourt Hotel that he was approached by locals who saw all the cars parked up and he was informed they thought the dealers were back!
Chief Supt Christy Mangan confirmed there were ‘certain drop off points’ and surveillance has been taking place.
Supt Andrew Watters added that the area at the interchange on the Donore Road was in the Laytown district and they are informed of any suspicious behaviour in the vicinity.
‘People have reported that area to us,’ he confirmed, ‘and those details are passed on to the Laytown district. That said, we don’t turn a blind eye when we are passing the area.’
