Commuters impacting on Bettystown business

-

COMMUTERS are threatening to put a Bettystown pharmacy out of business because they are taking up all the parking spaces in front of the premises.

Cllr Sharon Tolan told last week’s area council meeting that something had to be done to help businesses in the area.

‘When Donovan’s supermarket was there, the staff would arrive at 7am and park their cars in the spaces at the front of the shop to prevent all day parking.

‘ They’d move them to the rear of the development after 9am to allow shoppers come and go.

‘Now that it’s closed, there’s major problems for the chemist there. They are losing business and could close in 12 or 18 months,’ she stated. ‘We must do something.’

She also said it impacts on the cafe beside it.

She asked for three spaces for people with disabilites to be reserved but council officials said there were regulations in place in relation to how many spaces could be reserved.
