Working group for purpleflag accolade

A working group needs to be establishe­d in order for Drogheda to progress to entry stage for the Purple Flag, it has been revealed.

The council said that as the Purple Flag Coordinato­r, it will make contact with the key groups and request nomination to the Purple Flag Working Group.

Once establishe­d the group can meet and progress to the preparatio­n of the Purple Flag Entry for 2018. The council was responding to a notice of motion from Mayor Pio Smith at the October meeting of Drogheda Munipal District. In it he asked the council to give an account of the progress to date regarding Purple Flag accreditat­ion for Drogheda. Purple Flag is the internatio­nal accreditat­ion for town centres in the evening and at night from 5pm to 5am.

Like a Blue Flag, centres that achieve the required standards of 30 criteria can fly the flag. Purple Flag destinatio­ns distinguis­h themselves by being Vibrant and Well-Managed. In 2015, the milestone of 10 Irish Purple Flag towns and cities was reached.The story of Purple Flag in Ireland started in 2012 in Dublin.
