NEWFOUNDWELL GLENMUIR UNITED 10 0

NEWFOUNDWELL paid Division 3 opponents Glenmuir United the ultimate respect by fielding a full-strength team for this Tully Bookmakers Cup first round tie at DIFE and they showed the Dundalk side no mercy.

Despite the refereeing blowing for full-time more than 10 minutes early, the Premier Division hopefuls hit double figures in a devastating show of force which reinforces the view that they are favourites to win the Premier Division title this season.

‘Well hit the front when Ian Devine latched onto a Ryan Connor pass and turned sharply in the box, only to be brought down for a penalty which he then converted himself.

Daryl McDonagh then linked with Brian Kermode, who was making his first start of the season, and the latter sent in a cross which was converted past Glenmuir keeper Keith McEneaney by Devine.

Veteran midfielder Alan Murphy then got in on the act with a rare goal, sending an angled 18-yard effort in off the underside of the bar - 3-0.

Kermode then hit a piledriver from a standing position which McEneaney did well to turn behind, but the Newtown Blues footballer did find the net soon after and Connor then shot low past the keeper for 5-0.

Adam O’Connor had a simple tap-in from a Devine assist and coming up to half-time Craig O’Connor stepped inside off the left wing and sent a low shot inside the keeper’s left-hand post - 7-0 at the interval.

Half-time Ross Reid made his mark early in the second half when he was taken down in the D and dusted himself down before curling the resulting free kick around the wall and into the Glenmuir net.

Adam O’Connor then popped up with the goal of the game, unleashing a 30-yard piledriver to the net, and Craig O’Connor netted his second of the game to bring up double figures before the referee called an early halt to proceedings. NEWFOUNDWELL: Ronan Brown, Daryl McDonagh, Kevin Bull, Paddy O’Boyle (Ross Reid), Alan Murphy (Adam Brady), Ryan Connor, Adam O’Connor, Craig O’Connor, Brian Kermode (Kenny Hurley), Jordan Duffy, Ian Devine (Cormac Reid).
