TIDY VILLAGE
CONGRATS to the residents of Mountain View Estate at Stedalt Cross in Stamullen village for once again having been acknowledged and commended in the recent Tidy-Towns Competition for the beautiful lay-out of the gardens and lawns throughout the estate. Indeed, the judges from the overall Tidy-Towns Committee also paid tribute to the upkeep and layout of other residential homes throughout the village. So, well done to both the residents of Mountain View and to the owners of the other residential properties in impressing the judges on their recent visit.
ANIMAL STRANGLED
A local landowner, who had been searching for a missing cow in the Herbertstown area of Stamullen last week, came across the gruesome discovery of the unfortunate animal lying in a dyke after it had got in a snare which was tied to a tree. The snare had apparently been tied to the tree, perhaps having initially been set up there to ensnare a deer which run wild across this district; however, the animal got caught in the snare and strangled itself while it was trying to break free. Gardaí at laytown are investigating the incident.
NEW ARRIVALS
Congratulations and best wishes to the parents, guardians and extended families of the following children who were recently baptised in the parish. Lauren Clarkin, Liam Harney, Harry Hutcheson and Megan Marry.
PEDESTRIAN CROSSING
The new footpaths at Gormanston are a very welcome development to the area and with so much traffic now using the Stamullen to Gormanston road at all hours of the day.
There is a worry however, in that it is extremely difficult for motorists to observe anyone trying to cross the pedestrian crossing from one toe-path to the other in the area of Gormanston College Small-Parks Sports Field on the Stamullen Road. The pedestrian crossing is used by all as the footpath changes here from one side of the road to the other.
There perhaps needs to be a street-light placed closer to the crossing as it is particularly difficult to notice anyone crossing the road here at dusk, after dark and in the early morning and this is not going to improve as the darkened winter days approach.
Motorists beware of pedestrians at this location
and, those who are in charge within the local authority might consider having the pedestrian crossing lit up sooner rather than later!
COFFEE MORNING THANKS
The East Meath Hospice Association would like to extend their sincerest thanks and acknowledgement to all those who helped out and/or contributed in any way with their recent annual Coffee Morning, which was held in Whytes of Stamullen and also at the Lime Kiln in Julianstown. €1000 was raised in both establishments and all the money raised will be spent locally. Well done to all concerned.
BELLEWSTOWN BUS
Many calls have been made over the past five years or so requesting any old photographs of the Bellewstown bus from the readers of the Stamullen Notes and the Drogheda Independent in general.
The bus ran for many years every Saturday, arriving in Stamullen village just after 1pm and then travelling on through Clinstown, Greenanstown, Bellewstown, Lisdornan, Moorechurch, Julianstown and arrive back into Drogheda for around 2pm.
The bus would then travel back in the evening via Julianstown, bellewstown and arriving in Stamullen village close to 6.30pm. Calls to the readers for any old photos have been made on many occasion, however, to date, there hasn’t been 1 photograph forthcoming.
So, once again; if anyone has such a photo, no matter the condition, time or place, as long as it is of the Bellewstown bus en-route or stopped along the route, it would be greatly appreciated if they could get in touch. Any photograph presented will just be copied and returned and will be gratefully acknowledged. Telephone 01-8413033. Mobile 086-2260158 or a by e mail to brennersm@ eircom.net.
