LEDWIDGE STATUE

A STATUE of Slane poet Francis Ledwidge was unveiled in the main street of the village last Saturday. The sculpture, by local artist Liam Ó Broin, is in bronze and depicts Ledwidge sitting down and writing a poem into a notebook with a blackbird sitting on his shoulder. The official unveiling in the Village Garden was performed by Cllr Gerry O’Connor, chairman Meath Co Co, along with Ledwidge’s relatives, Joe Ledwidge and Dr Frank Ledwidge. There was a large attendance at the unveiling ceremony, including local representa­tives Cllr Wayne Harding and Paddy Meade as well as Francis Ledwidge Museum Committee chairperso­n Rose Yore.
