MORNINGTON BEACH

Mornington beach runs from the Maiden Tower to the exit from the beach the lies between Pat’s Centra and the Neptune hotel. It’s probably the most popular part off the entire beach the rest which runs all the way to the river Nanny.

It also has over ninety percent of the sand dunes. South of the Neptune to the river Nanny has very little dunes as most of that area mainly consists of residences.

Meath County Council have published a beach management plan recently which has the title “Bettystown and Laytown beach management plan”.

Now I’m nit picking a bit. At first page “A” type of beach “Laytown and Bettystown consists of a fine sandy beach backing on to sand dunes”. Not so all of the dunes are east of the golf course and we know where the golf course lies.

The “B” section on the same page states. Bathing waters; Laytown/Bettystown is the only designated bathing water in the bathing water regulations (2008) along this stretch of the beach. Excuse the nit picking but it’s probably the nature of the beast.

The crucial responsibility of the County Council and the beach management committee who are members of the council and local residents is to protect the sand that is on the beach as we speak. One only has to look at the Baltray beach and check it out.

South of the old wreck adjacent to the low water area (spring tide) there has appeared in recent times a huge area of stony ground which was always covered with a good depth of sand.

There is some reason that is causing this and if it’s not discovered

€5 RISE IN OLD AGE PENSION?

No. Its only €2.50 per week. When the full year has passed next October the old age pensioners will have got €250 approx for the next 52 weeks. When the price of cigarettes or fuel etc goes up within 8 hours or so. There appears to be a lack of respect for pensioners.

The headlines in the media declare “pensioners get €5 rise per week” not so. The headline can be regarded as fake news. Considering the rapid escalation of property prices and the uncertainty over Brexit it’s possible that the powers that will be will snatch rise back off us. One thing to remember, be afraid greatly afraid of the grey power.
