Elderly man (80) pinned against car

GARDAÍ are investigat­ing after a pensioner suffered severe injuries when he was pinned against his own car by another vehicle last Wednesday afternoon.

The shocking incident happened at around 2.45pm when the 80-year-old man, who lives in area, was placing some items into his car.

It is understood that he was pinned to his own vehicle by another car at the scene.

Shocked onlookers immediatel­y contacted emergency services who were on the scene within minutes.

The elderly man was freed from between the two vehicles and rushed by ambulance to hospital with serious injuries resulting from the accident.

It is understood he suffered a number of crush related injuries, including a broken leg and injuries to his knee.

He was operated on at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital last week.

Drogheda gardaí, Drogheda Fire Brigade and the local ambulance serivce were all in attendance at the scene.

A spokespers­on for the gardaí said this was a very serious and unfortunat­e incident for the elderly resident involved. The area was blocked for some time and emergency services worked to free the man and clear the scene and their were long delays for a number of hours as a result. Eyewitness­es were extremely shocked by the incident and said they couldn’t believe what they had seen.
