- By FIONA MAGENNIS

GARDAÍ in Drogheda are investigating what has been described as a ‘distraction burglary’ at a property in Tullyallen on Saturday last.

The incident happened at around 11.30am at Littlegrange when the elderly owner of the house answered the door to two women she did not know.

One of the women, who appeared to be heavily pregnant, asked could she use the toilet.

While she was inside, the other woman kept the resident talking.

After the women left the owner of the house realised that a number of items of jewellery were missing.

Gardaí would like to hear from anyone who may have been in the area at this time and noticed anything suspicious in the area.

A number of other business properties and homes were also broken into over the past week.

On Wednesday, October 18th there was an attempted robbery at Bar One Racing on Main Street in Dunleer.

A man wearing a bag over his head with holes cut out for his eyes, entered the shop and threatened to shoot staff at around 5.30pm.

Staff didn’t see a gun and refused to hand over any money.

The defendant fled the scene empty handed.

On October 17th, Seapoint Golf Club was broken into at around 2am. Four males were observed breaking into the premises.

There was some damage caused but nothing was taken.

The four men fled when gardaí arrived. The Cex store on West Street was broken in the early hours of Monday, October 23rd.

This is the second time in the space of a week the business has been targeted. Six refurbished iphones valued at €300 each were stolen.

The culprits gained entry to the premises by breaking in through the roof.

A house in Rosevale was broken into on Saturday night at around 8.45pm.

A window pane in the back door of the property was broken and two rings were stolen from the house.

A home in Dunleer was also targeted in a burglary on the same date, sometime between 4pm and 10.30pm. A quantity of cash was taken.

A house in Weirhope was broken into, sometime between 12.45pm on October 20th and 2am on the 21st. A door was forced open but it is unclear what was taken.

Gardaí are also investigating an attempted break-in at a house in Marley’s Court sometime between 10pm on the 20th and 4am the following morning. A kitchen window was cracked but no entry was gained.
