DDS4OP give ‘dig out’ to friends at the Community Allotments

-

THERE was much disappointment at the Drogheda Community Allotments recently after all their gardening tools were stolen - but their despair turned to joy this week when they were presented with a whole new set of equipment to help them continue to cultivate their unique patch.

The members of Drogheda and District Support 4 Older People decided to give their friends at the allotments a ‘dig out’ and generously donated the funds to buy new equipment.

A spokesperson for Drogheda & District Support 4 Older People (DDS4OP) revealed that thanks to a recent kind donation they have been able to help replace most of the tools that were recently stolen from the Drogheda Community Allotments.

‘We just happened to receive a donation at the same time as the allotments were robbed so it seemed like the right thing to do, one voluntary part of the community helping another one,’ said Dave Turner from DDS4OP. ‘We were glad to help and have to thank the management team at Woodies DIY for their help in picking the tools and their generous discount.’

The tools - which included, forks, spades, rakes, watering cans, hoes, shovels, buckets, sheers and saws - were handed over on Monday at the allotment site at Newtown.

The hand over was attended by members of the community allotments together with members of the Drogheda & District Care and Repair team. Unfortunately, the tools will have to be stored off site because of the fear of further robberies.
