Leinster draw a damp squib
IN case you missed it, the draw for next season’s provincial championships took place live on TV last Thursday evening.
Louth drew Carlow in the opening round with the winners facing Kildare in the quarter-finals.
Such was my complete lack of interest in proceedings, I didn’t bother to enquire as to whether we were at home or away.
Dublin’s provincial dominance has dulled the interest of most other Leinster counties in the competition with the situation deteriorating by the year.
There were no live television draws in my day but the championship draw always created a great buzz and sense of excitement among players and supporters in anticipation of the season ahead.
But the silence in the aftermath of this draw was deafening and spoke volumes of the malaise that currently exists in the weaker counties in Leinster.
