Drogheda to remember its Great War dead

A SPECIAL Remembranc­e Day event takes place at the cenotaph at the bottom of Mary Street on Saturday, November 4.

There will be acts of Remembranc­e, laying of wreaths, guard of honour, music and poetry to honour those who have died in conflicts down the years and especially those from the Great War.

The event will alsobe commemorat­ing the centenary of Lance Corporal Francis Ledwidge, the Slane poet, killed at Ypres on 31st July 2017, and whose name is inscribed on the base of the Celtic Cross.

All are welcome.

Then at 1pm,. there is a free concert celebratin­g the Centenary of Francis Ledwidge in The Droichead Arts Centre, Stockwell St, Drogheda

‘ The Hills are Crying’ is a new song cycle by the composer Michael Holohan. There will also a reading by the poet Susan Connolly from her new book ‘ The Orchard Keeper’.

There is also an award winning film about the life and poetry of Francis Ledwidge. All welcome and admission is free.
