A final farewell to the music man Eamonn

-

STARS of music and entertainment in general gathered in Crumlin last Thursday to say a final farewell to Drogheda’s musical genius, Eamonn Campbell.

The likes of Imelda May and the Furey brothers took part while members of the Dublin GAA team brought the Sam Maguire along.

Paddy Reilly also attended, his classic version of the Fields of Athenry - now sung all over the world - arranged by the gifted Eamonn.

Eamonn, although a William Street man, was a big fan of the Dubs and Philly McMahon, Kevin McManamon, Denis Bastick and Eoghan O’Gara carried his coffin into the church.

The congregation heard wonderful stories of his early days, teaching himself to play the guitar and enjoying his first gig at 14.

Eamonn passed away suddenly on October 18 while touring in Holland.

He is survived by wife Noreen and children, Paddy, Eamon (Jacko), Franky, Emma-Jane, Niamh and Ciara, other family and friends.
