The Swing Cats return to tread the boards in the Barbican for the second time this year. The Swing Cats made their first appearance in Drogheda back in March and can’t wait to greet the home crowd again.

The Swing Cats led by Luke Thomas have gone from strength to strength in recent years and are the band in demand having sold out the National Concert Hall and the Olympia Theatre.

The Swing Cats perform a musical timeline of swing classics from the 1920’s to the modern day. Featuring the music of Louis Armstrong, Fred Astaire, Bobby Darin, The Rat Pack, Michael Buble, Paolo Nutini and more. This 6-piece band who release their eagerly awaited second album this Christmas have spent the last three years playing to sellout shows all over Ireland and Europe.

TEDx Drogheda

TEDxDroghe­da will take place in the Droichead Arts Centre on 3rd November 2017 at 6pm, providing a broad interpreta­tion of the theme “Private Lives”, with presentati­ons by speakers from the local community and further afield.

TED is a nonprofit organizati­on devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading, usually in the form of short, powerful talks (18 minutes or fewer) delivered by today’s leading thinkers and doers. Tickets are now on sale, priced at €30 for a Standard Ticket and €15 for a Concession Ticket (senior members 65+, students, unemployed).

Local history

COMMUNITY Historian, Brendan Matthews in associatio­n with the Old Drogheda Society will deliver a six-week Local History Course titled “Know Your Drogheda” at the Drogheda Museum Millmount.

Starting on Thursday evening November 2nd and ending on Thursday December 7th, the course will run for just over onehour each week from 7.45 to 9pm and is designed for anyone interested in the town`s past and would be deemed ideal for both adults and students and also for those who may be already employed in the tourism/ hospitalit­y sector in the north-east region.

The aim of this six-week course is to introduce the participan­ts to the historical sites & monuments within the town of Drogheda and to outline the historical timeline of events, its streetscap­e, buildings and people that have shaped its storied past from the first settlers along the great River Boyne to the foundation­s of the medieval town and from the Industrial mills & factories of the 19th century to the emergence of an expanding town in the 21st century.

Course fee is €60, payable on the first evening.

Cook with Mary’s!

ST Mary’s DS in associatio­n with the parents council are hosting ‘Come Cook with Us’ with chef Joe Shannon and comedian Frank Forde. It’s on Thursday November 16 at 7.30pm in the City North. Guest chefs include Sharon Keogan, Joe Rooney, Mary Simpson, Fr Joe Campbell. Tickets are 20 euro from the school.

Irish youth club

AN Irish youth club, run by Colaiste na bhFinn, takes place each Wednesday from 5-6.30pm in the O’Raghallaig­hs. All children from 3rd class upwards are welcome and they learn Irish through games and fun. Drogheda is one of 40 As Gaeilge clubs in Ireland.
