Schools blitz a big success

-

THE first secondary school Camogie blitz held in Louth for quite some time proved a great success last week as almost 90 girls took part, with some even getting a taste of the game for the first time.

Teams from Ballymakenny, Our Ladys Drogheda, St Oliver’s Drogheda, Scoil Ui Mhuiri Dunleer, St Louis, Dundalk and St Vincents, Dundalk all took part in a well organised event, hosted at St Fechin’s.

Given all the recent bad weather, the blitz was played in glorious sunshine which made for excellent conditions for Camogie.

Played in a round robin format Ballymakenny and St Vincents made it through to the final with the the Dundalk girls pulling through to claim the title.

Lorraine Young and Orla O’Connor from Louth Camogie were referees on the day. Organisers paid tribute to the teachers for taking the time to coach the girls and there was special thanks to Sabrina Larkin from Leinster Camogie for her assistance with this and other initiatives in Louth.

Another blitz is planned for November.
