Brilliant Harps hit heights

DULEEK BOYNE HARPS 0 4

BOYNE Harps cruised into the next round of the Tully Bookmaker’s Cup seeing off Duleek in some style at the Tollstone.

Harps started the game strongly and took the lead early on when Stephen Carter slotted a tidy left footed effort into the bottom left hand corner of Keith Martin’s net.

The home side came into the game midway through the half and nearly equalised when Barry Kavangh’s free kick was well saved by Harp’s keeper Alan Sweeney.

Kavanagh had another chance to bring the home side level but his effort was well blocked by Austin McCann. Harps could have doubled their lead when Manny Smith latched on to a Stephen Carter corner, only to head wide.

The home side received a major blow in the first half when their main striker Kavanagh was forced off through injury and their bad luck continued shortly after when goalkeeper Keith Martin had to depart following a collision with Harp’s striker Alan Wilton.

The second half turned into a bit of a scrappy affair with both teams struggling to play football. Harps began to take control as the half went on, reducing the home side to a handful of half chances.

It was the introduction of Harps substitutes Nathan Llewellyn and Dean Fitzpatrick that pushed the away side on to victory.

Harps doubled their lead midway through the half when Llewellyn broke the offside trap and squared the ball for Stephen Carter to hit his second goal of the game from close range.

It wasn’t long before Harps got their third when Llewellyn broke down the right hand side and brilliantly slotted home at the near post.

The result was secured with five minutes remaining when after some good work down the left from Fitzpatrick released Carter and his brilliant through ball found Llewellyn in space to make it four with another cool finish into the bottom corner.
