DROGHEDA TOWN ARDMORE 3 1

DROGHEDA Town made it back-to-back wins when coming from behind to seal an impressive 3-1 victory in DIFE on Friday night.

Ardmore came to Town unbeaten in league and cup competitions so far this season so manager Robbie Horgan knew that his team had to be firing on all cylinders and they didn’t let him down.

The foggy conditions didn’t stop either team from playing good football in the first half in which both teams tried to get the ball down and play.

Ardmore made the break through in the 18th minute with some quick passing the ball was fed out to their right hand side and a perfect cross was headed in at the back post via the underside of the bar.

Town heads didn’t go down and should have equalised in the 30th minute when great work from Dale Harding down the right hand side he squared the ball for the inrushing Michelle Corsi who couldn’t manage to get a proper touch on the ball as it went agonising by the post.

Second half exploded into life in the 48th minute when a long ball from defence for DTFC was pounced upon by Andy Tinley who outpaced the centre half and hit a sweet volley over the keeper and into the back of the net.

Buoyed by that goal Drogheda went into overdrive searching for a second, the tackles where now flying in as the game intensified and in the 60th minute both teams where reduced to 10 men when tempers flared up, Dale Harding was the player sent off for the hosts.

Again it was DTFC who stepped up the search for a winner and they duly obliged with a superb strike from Roy Kierans in the 65th minute.

Good play down the right saw Town keep the ball well before a pass into Kierans saw the midfielder look up and curl a wonderful strike into the top corner from 25 yards out.

DTFC didn’t stop there and in the 70th minute added a third, from a set piece on the left side of the Ardmore box the ball was floated in to the back post, Dave McTeggart headed it back across goal and Calum Cooney took a touch before calmly finishing.

Ardmore went three at the back in search of a goal to get back into the game for the last 20 minutes. Manager Horgan made four substitutions to bring on fresh legs to finish the job off which the team duly did in style.

After the game Horgan said: ‘l was delighted with the performance from start to finish, we where down 5/6 bodies tonight but to a man the lads attitude was fantastic and it was a great team performance. We defended really well and mixed our game up at the right times against a very good Ardmore team, plus all our goals where of the highest quality.

Horgan also added that Derek Coogan former Navan Cosmos manager has joined his backroom team and is delighted to have his experience on board.
